Parent Support Services

DADS/Incarcerated Males:  a weekly group session in the Ashland County Jail, funded by United Way of Ashland County. Focus: to help men reflect on their past experiences in order to identify barriers and develop goal-oriented solutions on how to be a healthy male role model and father. Programming offers positive encouragement to help overcome the guilt /shame concerning the masculine journey and obstacles from low self-esteem and negative thinking. Materials used: Wild at Heart by John Eldredge, Fathering in 15.

MOMS/Incarcerated Females: a weekly group session in the Ashland County Jail, funded by United Way of Ashland County. Focus: to help mothers reflect on their past experiences in order to identify barriers and develop goal-oriented solutions. The program offers positive encouragement and engagement to help mothers improve their parenting skills. Materials used: Strengthening Families Program: Lessons on Discipline, Communication, Boundaries, etc. 

Group Support / Parent Support: Through individual and group opportunities, parents are equipped with tools to enhance and implement their parenting skills. Parents will learn how their child’s brain develops and how to provide a nurturing environment for their family. The curriculum focuses on healthy brain development, positive discipline, and communication. Parents will teach their children rules, routines, and responsibilities to strengthen their family. 

A Parent Support Specialist will be assigned to guide and walk with parents on their journey to becoming better parents. Classes are conducted on a week to week basis by appointment. The Strengthening Families Program is a 10-week curriculum, the number of sessions may be determined by the needs, goals, and objectives. The class can take place at home, our office, public setting, or via zoom.  

Divorcing Parents: a 3-hour seminar in partnership with the Domestic Relations Court. Focus: co-parenting strategies. The program is mandated to Ashland County divorcing parents with minor children. Sessions are conducted twice a month at Advocates For Families, 270 Sandusky St. Ashland, Ohio 44805, every second Tuesday of the month from 6-9pm and every third Saturday of the month from 9-12pm. Cost is $40, mail in money order/check or bring in cash when attending class.
