Team Spotlight: Mike

  • How long have you worked for AFF? Since July 2023
  • What do you love about working here? One of my life’s mantras is to make a difference. I love working here because everyone here chose to walk beside and hopefully make some impact on the people we serve.
  • Education?

-Bachelor’s in Political Science from Wittenberg University

-AAS in Hotel, Restaurant, and Fitness Management from the Community College of the Air Force

-Lots of education and certifications in my previous roles within the Ohio Air National Guard

  • Hobbies? Spending time outdoors, hiking, running, flying drones, driving my old Camaro with the t-tops off blasting 80s music, doing some virtual reality flying with my PC, fixing computers
  • Family? -Married to my wife, Erin, who I met volunteering at Camp Mowana. She has a fun connection to AFF and was one of the reasons I chose to work here. -My son is currently a junior at Akron University studying Business Information Systems and is heavily involved in Akron’s e-sports community -My daughter is a freshman at Miami University studying Speech Pathology. She is enjoying it there and is excited for what her future holds. -We have a rescue Staffordshire Bull Terrier at home that keeps us company now that our kids are gone. His name is Murphy and he is very clingy – especially to Erin!
  • Future Goals? My only real goal is to live life to the fullest. Enjoy the ride. Don’t take anything for granted. Be there for each other. Love one another.
  • Where are you from? Well, I have lived in Ashland nearly 25 years now, but before that I spent time living in Salem, the Columbus area, Springfield, Mansfield, Bucyrus, and now Ashland.
  • What is something interesting about you most people don’t know or do know? I received an incentive ride with the Air National Guard back in 2012, and flew on an F-16. It was the ride of my life. All the way down on the drive I was playing music from Top Gun and Iron Eagle. I also flew in a stunt plane over Lake Erie during the Cleveland National Air Show. That was amazing as well.
  • What inspires you each day? To be authentic and make a difference wherever I am planted.
  • Favorite movie, show, book, song, or artist? Top Gun Maverick all the way. Ask me how many times I have seen it. Favorite band – Journey, with Def Leppard a close second. Pretty much any 80s rock will light up my day! Favorite show has to be The Office! I’ve read a lot of books lately. I love a good science fiction book, however, recently, the book “Love Wins” by Rob Bell has sent me on an exciting spiritual book excursion.
